The only thing was that I needed to know how to describe it or give an example to tattoo artist. The bad thing about it's I'm terrible at giving descriptions and just as bad at drawing pics. On your quest for how can i design my own name tattoo? You can just simply go down to your local tattoo parlor, and ask one of the artists to give you a rough cut version on paper. This saves you the anguish of trying to do it yourself. 
The placement that you'll get the tattoo inked on your body will determine many factors such as size, details and etc. As well you want to get the big picture for the tattoo out of the way so you're not flipping your ideas all the time. So think about the deeper reason you want a tattoo. Do not choose a design just as it looks cool.
